I was disappointed this weekend when I went to Harajuku and found out the Japanese salon I used to regularly visit wasn't at LaForet anymore.  Real bummer.

I mean it's not like there's a short supply of hair salons in the Tokyo area.  I mean seriously there's almost one or more on every block.  But rather, I was quite comfortable going to this salon because I knew the stylist could do what I wanted and do it well.

My worry about going to the salons here, of course lies in the fact that I'm a foreigner.  And to top that, I've got mixed-Asian hair!! ><  So I wasn't really too sure how willing a Japanese sylist would be to do my hair.  I mean with the other salon, I figured I was just lucky to meet some brave people up for the challenge but...who knows if other stylists would be so fearless.

Technically, I could go to the military-based salon and get my hair done in a comfortable English setting where I know for sure my hair won't be messed up due to misunderstandings and all.  But, well, I'm picky.  I wanted to get a certain hairstyle...specifically a very Japanese haircut.  And I wasn't so confident that the foreign stylist would be able to cut it the way I wanted it.  So it had to be a Japanese salon.

Well, today, since I got off work early, I decided to try my luck and just pick one.  If they messed up, I figured I 'd just cut my hair short at the military salon.  But, luckily, I found a great salon with a great stylist. My greatest fear was that once I got to the salon, the stylist would be in such a panic that a. they're working on non-Japanese hair and b. they don't know English.  Thank goodness, none of the stylists were like that at all.  In fact they were very normal and treated me just like every other customer.  And I know for sure this was the first time my stylist had to deal with hair like mine.  Damn stubborn curliness!><

So first they straightened my hair (took a long blasted four hours) and then I was ready for the big cut.  My hair is very Japanese high school girlish now.  I love it!  Hopefully, it can stay this way for a while.  I was very pleased with the results because I think they did a better job than any salon I've been to in the US.  Plus, I got a massage.....a great massage!  I only wished it could've last longer.  And the salons here are awesome because you could be getting a cheap haircut but feel youre in a luxurious salon because the salons are often decored very ritzy like that.  And they gave me free drinks!!!  Great way to keep me coming!

Anyhow, I'm really glad I tried this place out.  I have a lot more faith in Japanese stylists now...even more than I do American ones, I think.

LOL I have similar problems here XD

I went to about 7 American salonist, every single ONE of them messed up my hair. It's just too thick a strand but not ENOUGH thickness for the amount of hair I have or whatever.

Only Asians seems to know how to handle my hair XD But i got no idea how they'd work with non-Asians :P

The ones I feel bad for are the black people. They always need specific chemical treatments for their hair after all o.o

Is there any reason that you picked a japanese hairstyle? I wonder if you'll show up with a mullet next time I see you! :O

I guess what I got was a mullet, tho. But I like it. It's short in front and long in the back. ^^ And the layers add a really nice touch. I'll post a picture soon.
