Despite today being my day off, I got up early so I could meet _miyuchan_ in Shinjuku at noon for a round of karaoke at 1.
Since we were early, we decided to grab a bite to eat to kill time.  We went to a nearby Japanese restaurant that specialized in udon. But we ordered the katsukare (pork cutlet and curry) rice bowl.  It was good but maybe I should've left the last two cutlets alone because really I was already full by the time I got to them. ^^;  Still it was nice to indulge into some good katsukare for a change. It's been a while.

After eating we went to karaoke for about five hours.  They had Ranka Lee(MacrossF)'s  Seikan Hikou and What 'bout My Star!! I hope they'll eventually get Sheryl's Infinity and Welcome to my Fanclub. I suck at Sheryl's songs but I really like them the best. As for Ranka's songs, at least I can sing Seikan Hikou in it's original key.:p

Ah! I cut my karaoke time short because I thought I had to take a Japanese test at Human Academy today. But it turns out the test is next week.>.<

So I ran into one of my guy friends who also mixed up the day for the test. He needed to kill time before heading home, so we went to Kinokuniya so he could find a certain book.  After that we went to Uniqlo on the way to the game center (arcade).

At the arcade, we played 1 game of Magic Quiz Academy for 100 yen.  We played as Taiga, which my friend picked out because he thought he looked the gayest.:p We made it to the 3rd round before failing.  But at least we were in 2nd place until utterly failing the last round. Not bad for not being raised in Japan and therefore being clueless to countless J-trivia.  I can't wait till the DS version of this game is out.

I got home around 10 and I'm exhausted.  Hope I can get up on time for work tomorrow!

PS. Congrats to my mommy!  She won this Philippine raffle where she got a TV as a prize!  Yay for her!  Now it's a PNB raffle, next may it be the LOTTO!!

Um.. I was wondering, since you're new on my f/l, I don't know some things about you and this post brought up some more things. Do you mind answering a few things for me?

Are you studying abroad? Or are you living in Japan permanently (with a visa through a job?)? How old are you and how did you learn Japanese, being half American, half Filipina?

Just some things that I've been wondering about you since I added you to my f/l. ^^

And congrats to your mom! That's awesome! I'd love to do some Ranka song karaoke sometime! Too bad the closest karaoke is in NYC -.-

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. It's been a busy week.

I'm both working and studying in Japan.
I've been living in Japan for about 4 and a half years.
I'm 26 and I first learned Japanese in university.
But I had only studied it for 2 years in college (which only taught the basics) so I learned most of it in Japan.
But I only started going to Japanese school about a year and a half ago. Before that I just learned Japanese from living here.

Yeah, it sucks that we don't really have any karaoke places nearby. I'm gonna miss karaoke when I go back home for the summer.

Wow! I'm really amazed you were able to just up and go to Japan! That must have been a pretty hard experience at first, if you say you only learned the basics at your uni in the states. My respect for you has just jumped up like 80 bajillion notches :O That's so admirable, and it is actually inspiring to me, as I'm learning Japanese so slowly through my uni and feel like I could never be fully immersed in such a different culture.

I'm just stoked now that I have such a cool person on my f/l ^^

Ooooh language test? Is this for the free classes?
Jul. 16th, 2008 04:42 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm gonna go there tonite to take the placement test.
They only had classes for Monday afternoons, Saturday noon and eve. and Wednesday noon and eve. But Saturday booked up really quickly so all I could take were the eve classes on Wed. If you're interested I'll let you know when they start taking apps for the fall classes. They said they'll offer a lot more choices for classes in the fall.

Yes please! ^^ Is it too late to apply for the classes for Summer?

It's so hard to learn Japense, I think...
But, it's rather a question of time and habits.
As I'm French, when I learn a language, I have the bad habit to translate everything into French in my head (I don't know if it's the case everywhere)
It's bad >_<
There are many things I don't understand because it's not logical for me >_< and others that I find easier ^^

I'm glad, you seem to have spent a good day ^^ Me too, I would like to go at karaoke and singing japanese song... It's very fun :)
So Good Luck !
And Congrats to your mom again ^^
