Let's watch GREASE! A spontaneous notion!

So this past Saturday, while walking through Aoyama from Shibuya with my friends, we passed by the Aoyama Theatre with this huge flashing Grease sign. Being fans of the original Broadway musical as well as the movie, we spontaneously decided to go ahead and pay 8000 yen to get 立ち見(standing) tickets to watch a musical in which we had no idea who might be in the cast of. An impulsive choice it was but we're glad we made it.

Turns out the musical starred Johnny's faves, Ikuta Toma (Nakatsu from HanaKimi) and Yara Tomoyuki (Musical Academy)!  I've seen Yara on stage before (NarutoMyu as Naruto) but not Ikuta!!  So it was a pleasant surprise.  Although, the play doesn't quite live up to the Broadway version, sorry guys...it was still quite a lot of fun. One of the best show stoppers was "Grease Lightnin"  which had an awesome modern dance twist.  A dance that was similar to step. Very cool.   I also liked the guy who played the guardian angel in "Teen Angel."  Ikuta impressed me so much when he sang the "Alone at the Drive in Movie" song.  I was like wow...I didn't know he could sing THAT well.

The girl who played Sandy had a wonderful voice, very crystal clear and angelic.  She was lucky.  She got to kiss Toma..like a for real kiss on the lips...at least two times.  Surprising to me, since I always think of Johnny's Jimusho being so strict about that kind of stuff.

I really can't believe we spent 8000 yen on such a whim like that...but it was such a fun time.  As a theatergoer even back in DC, I really love this fact about Tokyo.  At any given time, I have so many opportunities to go out there and watch myself some good theater.

BTW this is one of my favorite and most memorable numbers from the Broadway Revival of Grease. It's called  "Magic Changes." Unfortunately, it was omitted in the movie version. I saw this revival when the tour came to DC.

Magic changes is one of the best parts about the musical. That's absolutely awesome that you got to see that. The last really professional play (Broadway quality) I saw was Les Mis in London more than 4 years ago ;___; musical wo mitai!

ooh I love Les Miz. I've seen it so many times both on Broadway and in DC. It was one of the first musicals I really got into. Always wanted to play Eponine. Too bad I can't sing.>

oooh you went!
mh toma does sing quite nicely =3
and he's worked his way up in the ranks of the Johnny's for a few years now...I loved him in his dramas and I wish I could see him live, too...but nya... =X

about Johnny's and kissing in movies/on stage...I think they're not that strict anymore. I watched another musical featuring a Johnny and the kissing scene was all over the press and the Jimusho didn't seem to mind at all... it was kissing on the lips as well so =X
(come on...kanjani8 kiss each other all the time *lol* I mean... two guys kissing during concerts and even on the concert DVD... XD not -real- kissing though but close enough...? the japanese kind of 'real kissing' XDD *peta*)

Yeah, I've only seen his singing in the variety shows and stuff but never really noticed him as a solo artist. I like his acting too.

Well, I expect the boys to kiss..they've always done that. The boys are always giving fanservice and I don't really think fans mind if the boys kiss. But it surprises me when they let girls (esp. like those from morning musume) kiss them because I thought they'd be worried about fans getting jealous and all.

mh... but then again the kiss from MatsuJun and Inoue Mao at the end of the 1st season of HYD was one of the "best kissing scenes in a drama" that year?

so yeah...I guess it's getting lax...and well the girls all went "kyaa kawaiii!" around me during the kissing scenes? of course others are all "urayamashiiii" but.... =X

I could... but they're WAY expensive and far away. Not to mention no one to go with. T_T
