Take Cover Its Officially Here!

Sneaked a pic on the train of all these people on one side of the train wearing masks. There are more people wearing masks that you can't see in the pic but couldn't manage to get a shot of the whole car without being noticed since I only had my keitai on me.

Well, it was only a matter time but yes the Miss Piggy Flu has arrived in Tokyo.
I don't know whether to be amused by how paranoid some people seem to be about the flu or join in the latest fashion trend of wearing a mask in this hot summer-like weather.
BTW, this is the BEST time to be a foreigner in Japan.  Watch as people avoid you on the train for fear of catching something and you better hold in those sneezes if you have allergies..and man the countless jokes going around my office told by Japanese coworkers about avoiding certain touristy places because they're dangerous with all the virus-carrying foreigners around.  +__+  Hello, guys. I'm in the room, too.  And newsflash I'm one of those gaikokujin you're talking about.><

Well, actually I don't mind the jokes too much.  I think they're kind of funny Only thing is I think some of them might actually not be joking and actually think what they're saying is true.U__U . I should mention I joke around about the flu myself whenever someone, Japanese or not,  coughs or sneezes but I don't go around telling jokes about staying away from Mexicans or anything..that's just ____________.

Anyhow, I wonder how long this flu hysteria will last.
Maybe I should start wearing a mask, too.  Not only will I prevent catching the virus but I'll also save myself from having to smell funky body odor and bad coffee breath during rush hour. yay.

Exactly how bad is it?
I mean, even if you catch it, it's still just the flu, right??
Uncomfortable sure, but you wouldn't die from it. (Unless your country doesn't have good medical care like Mexico...)

Yeah, I don't think it's that serious unless you have existing medical conditions like diabetes or asthma and stuff. And I honestly think the chance of contracting it is low. Like I know people who say they don't want to fly to the US because theyre afraid to get the flu and I'm like the US is huge...the chances of you catching it are very low. Besides life is full of risks.

I hope this is all over with by August cuz I dun wanna deal with it at the airport, etc. The media just exaggerates too much. .-_-

LOL. No kidding. Since I'm in Osaka, we got hit pretty bad. Although the one perk is our final exams got canceled. It's impossible to find masks here. At least I'm going to the country side this weekend and possibly get away from this mania.

Yeah I've read on the news that more than 200 people have it in Japan now..
The thing is that those masks are useless if they don't change them every 2 hours and if they don't make sure to trash them in a place where the bacteria won't be able to fly around...

What a nice moment to plan a trip there XDD I really hope that for July things will calm down...
This flu is not so dangerous, but japanese people are crazy when it comes to these things.
If you decide to wear the mask make sure to change it every two hours.

One of my teachers joked that this was just a rehearsal for the real thing when the virus comes around again in the fall, haha =___=;; I seriously think that Japan is really over exaggerating this flu, because it is just a flu. As long as you don't have pre-existing conditions or aren't pregnant, then if you're cautious, I mean, it's not something to worry about that much... not to the point that masks are sold out everywhere. I mean, jeez ^^;;;

I am not caring about the flu, and as long as my events are not canceled, I am going to them! +_+

Btw, I didn't get tickets for any of the NeoLive shows... not that I really expected to, lol. Sorry ^^; There's still the second GC lottery if there are empty seats, and the other preorders. I'll help you out on those~

Yeah I knew when it finally would come here things would get overblown. I mean they were already overworried when it came to just talking about people taking flights overseas. ><

Thanks for helping me out with the NeoLive tix. I'm gonna do my best too!! ^^ otagaini ganbarou!

Bahaha, I know what you mean. My teacher got all freaky on me 'cause I had to go to the bathroom during a test (wut wut).

People only avoid you if they think you're a foreigner. Otherwise they're the one who end up coughing on you (bah ew, k thx, no).

Your coworkers probably already considered you as one of them so they don't think it applies to you, so they joke about it even if you're in the room lol. No one treats me like I'm a gaikokujin in my senmongakkou either.

That would be cool if my coworkers really do think that way about me and my fellow American coworker. I'll try to think positively.XD

Oh yes and of course nature calling is the first sign of the Piglet flu don't ya know.

It only gets worse...
I went to Korea for Golden Week and when I returned my school pretty much freaked out about the flu... I was pissed. Every time I gave omiyage they were like "Are you ok? Did you get the flu?"

They even quarantined a few teachers because they were in Korea for a longer time than I was.... and I kinda wanted the extra days off...

It will pass just like any Japanese mass hysteria...

Oh Japan, when will you learn sharing is caring....

Re: It only gets worse...
I'm glad I hadn't planned an overseas trip because I'm sure that my school would've had the same reaction. =.= Well, at least I'd hope they'd at least pretend to want my omiyage. xD
