So my sister and I went out for a walk when I started doing my impression of Wakamoto Norio.
She thought I was spoiling her about some Durarara!! episode.
I told her my impression had nothing to do with DRRR!! and that Wakamoto Norio is a famous seiyuu.
We debated as she said noone knows who Wakamoto Norio is.
And I disagreed saying that he may not be popular like the young seiyuu are, but he IS a well-known veteran seiyuu.
And seiyuu fans, and I mean seiyuu fans who actually watch an anime and can recognize a character's seiyuu by their voice would probably know who he is.  Also seiyuu fans who listen to seiyuu radio shows on a regular basis would probably know because other seiyuu are always doing monomane of him.

Basically, I can't be the only one in the world who recognizes the name Wakamoto Norio or his voice.  Tell me I'm not...

So we agreed to poll the question on our friends lists.  So if you have time, please settle our debate and answer this poll. It's only one question.

Poll #1549132 Do you know who Wakamoto Norio is?

Do you know who Wakamoto Norio is?

Yes, I'm a seiyuu fan and I know him. His voice is so distinct. Who doesn't know Wakamoto Norio?
Yes, I'm not a big seiyuu fan but I know who the guy is.
No, I don't. I'm a seiyuu fan but the name doesn't ring a bell.
No, I don't. Not a seiyuu fan. No clue whatsoever.
Norio....isn't that the uke from the Sex Pistols BL manga?

There was no "No I don't. I'm not a seiyuu fan, but I recognize most of the big ones, especially the oldies." option. That would be me. ^^;;

Dude, contact me about the caverns! You know where to find me. :p

Of course! Again, I'm not a huge seiyuu fan, I know who the more famous ones are, but how could you not recognize his voice?! I haven't watched a lot with Wakamoto in it, but he's just SO recognizable. I'd recognize his voice only after hearing it once! My husband has a man-crush on him even XD

Also, his Sheep Counting drama CD had me in STITCHES. How could anyone ever get to sleep with that? ^^

LoL about your husband. hahaha
Who can resist that manly voice, after all.

That's awesome that you both can talk about these kinds of things together. XD

I gotta hunt down that CD!! I can totally imagine how he counted them! And I agree, his voice has a distinct pattern of intonation which I think is kind of why everyone enjoys doing impressions of him. It's like doing an impression of William Shatner...everyone recognizes his way of talking after hearing it once.

His voice is so distinctive that even if I wasn't a seiyuu fan, I'm sure I'd recognize him again easily, if I had a name to go with the voice XD;

I agree. It definitely stands out. And yeah, I was trying to explain the same thing to my sister that even if I didn't know his name if I heard his voice on one show and then heard it again in another I'd be able to tell they were from the same guy.

She thinks the only people who know his voice are those who watched Hayate and since she didn't watch Hayate that's the reason why SHE doesn't know it...^^; I was like "???" because she's seen Code Geass and Sengoku Basara at the very least.

Also half the other stuff he's in rofl.
Apr. 10th, 2010 03:17 pm (UTC)
Haha...she didn't watch much Dragon Ball so I don't blame her. But he's done other stuff she's watched and yeah I still can't believe she doesn't recognize his voice.:p

I'm still amewsed that you guys called me up to ask about this. X.DDD

I think Wakamoto is one of those seiyuu where even if you don't know much about seiyuu, you might know of him or at least heard his voice. He's definitely a well-known veteran seiyuu. I think most Japanese people know of him.

Chiyo chan's dad~

Hehe...our form of sibling rivalry you could say. ;p

Yeah, I totally agree with your statement!! I tried to explain that but she wouldn't believe me so I said let's poll it on lj then. Well, if she didn't know who he was yesterday, I'm sure she knows who he is today. XD

I just sent a mail to your keitai a while ago but... are we good for tomorrow? Or do you still have plans?
Apr. 10th, 2010 01:37 pm (UTC)
I don't see how people can not know who he is oAo// Probably because he doesn't play attractive characters.
Apr. 10th, 2010 03:26 pm (UTC)
LoL..that's what I told her. I was like people who are BIG seiyuu fans and not just those who only like/know a particular seiyuu because they voiced a bishounen will definitely know who he is. And that's why I had to tell her he may not be popular in like an idol type way as say someone like Kamiya Hiroshi but trust me he's famous.

So far, this poll is proving my point. ^o^

Of course I won't recognize him. I don't know anyone D: (except Kacky lol =A=).

Btw, I've been meaning to ask (since I'm actually getting around to doing my homework *gasps*), are there any voice acting agencies in the states (like the ones in Japan)? D: I was browsing online, but I think they're mostly just freelancers and they audition themselves?
Apr. 11th, 2010 06:25 am (UTC)
LoL. Silly girl. You should get to know your future senpai.:p

Yeah,I think a lot are freelancers. I think there are some websites where they send in their demos, too. But I don't know of agencies dedicated to voice acting in the US. I know in the past at least, a lot of voice acting talent for anime was recruited from Canada. So maybe there are Canadian agencies. Sorry I'm so not in the know when it comes to the industry in the US.><
