Catholic Mass in English in Tokyo
Today,I went to a Franciscan Chapel in Roppongi to celebrate Sunday Mass with Jamie. Jamie isn't Catholic but I'm glad she came along because it's always fun to go to church with a friend. And I needed to pray for a job so...
Anyways, it was great to go to an English mass where the priests are all Americans. And wow! I've never seen so many Americans gathered in one place before here in Tokyo. It was nice to hear so many people speaking English. It was very much like home. Of course, not just Americans were there! There were Australians, Koreans, Filipinos, Swiss, Canadians, and Indians there. A great mix of people!

After mass, we went to the welcome reception area and asked about local International Grocery stores. The lady told us about this great place in Hiroo. So we ended up going their and checking out the import supply. It was really nice! Honestly, so much proof that you can hardly get homesick in Tokyo. I also asked the receptionist about Filipino video stores in the area. It turns out there's a vendor who sells Tagalog movies for cheap at the Yotsuya Catholic church (which I was originally gonna visit but decided on the Franciscan chapel). That'll be good for future reference! I really wanna watch a Filipino movie...its been so long. Need to brush up on my Tagalog, too. My mom's planning a family trip to her hometown for next year.

Hayashi Shuuji is AWESOME! Sasuga da, ne!
Since Shuuji personally asked us to come to watch his play, St. Ludovico Gakuin, I couldn't miss out on the last performance today! I read the summary from the flyer passed out at Bleach Myu but I still wasn't sure what to expect!
But, I LOVED the show! I'm not sure if I should call it a musical. It was a play with songs but err...hmmm...well, I guess that's what you would call a musical...?_?
Anyways, I'll have more of a detailed review later but here's a small plot summary.
Everyone uses their real names in the play...w/the exception of some minor characters.
So, Shuuji is seriously the star of the play. The whole entire cast LOVE Shuuji. He's so DAMN cool! He's the captain of the soccer team for Saint Antonio All Boys School and the girls from St. Ludovico Academy cheer him on as he plays a major game.
There is one girl in particular who is especially cheering him on with all her heart...his childhood friend, Rie, whose love for him is unrequited. She wants to confess her feelings to Shuuji but there's someone standing the way! Shuuji's Chinese fiance, Rin!

During the game, an accident occurs!! Shuuji gets hit in the head and is knocked unconcious.
Rie goes to the hospital to visit Shuuji and learns the bad news that he's in a coma. Rin also visits the hospital and is determined to wake Shuuji up...with----a KISS! Well, Rie's not having any of that! When Rin bends over for the kiss, Rie pushes her away and kisses him first. Afterall, she's always wanted to be his first kiss! BUT, this was a bad move on Rie's part. Her kiss actually causes Shuuji to flat line and he's pronounced dead on the spot!

Rie and Rin are desparate to get Shuuji back to life!

Meanwhile, Shuuji is on the other side now! He doesn't remember a thing about his life. He meets a little boy named Giovanni and they become instant friends. What kind of adventure lies ahead for the two of them? And will Shuuji be able to return to the land of the living?

The other world is where all the fun begins. It's full of parodies. Parodies include the dorama about the strict teacher who never smiles and is really mean to her kids...sorry I dont recall the name because I only saw it once on tv. But their parody of it was so hilarious.

The teacher totally ripped Shuuji on the fact that he must think he's so cool just because all these girls in the audience are there to see him. But in actuality their not fans of Hayashi Shuuji, theyre really just fans of Kuchiki Byakuya! Haha! Ill try to write up a more detailed description of this dialogue about BleachMyu later because it was a riot!

This stageplay totally plays on the fact that a majority of the audience are here from seeing Shuuji in the BleachMyu!

There's a great Densha Otoko parody! The Densha Otoko is on the train reading a Bleach manga tank when a drunk guy passes by and harasses the pretty girl across from him! When Densha Otoko goes to save the girl, the girl is so disgusted by him and tells him off for not minding his own business. Instead of the girl being a Hermes girl, she's a Chanel girl! Can she ever love him!? They have many scenes throughout the show and the Densha Otoko is such a Bleach otaku. He sports a really awesome Bleach t-shirt and has laminated pictures of Shuuji as Byakuya hanging around his neck. It was so funny!

There's also a Rose of Versailles parody f/Andre, Antoinette and oops, I forgot the name of the other girl. Gotta look that up.
There are many more but Ill mention them later.

All in all, it was a great performance. I only wish they would sell dvds...wonder if they will. I wanted to buy some pictures of Shuuji but ended up saving the cash instead. I'm assuming that since there'll be another performance coming up, they'll sell the same pics again. And hopefully they print more copies of the one where Shuuji is wearing his cool soccer jersey!

After the show, many of the actors were hanging out in the lobby talking to fans and friends...but there was no sign of Shuuji.:/ He was prolly talking to his guests backstage or taking pictures...We really wanted to greet him..but oh well...it couldnt be helped.

Free Ticket to *pnish*
BTW, a surprise discovery on the way to the theatre today. It turns out the *pnish* was playing right next door to St. Ludovico! And guess what! I was handed a free ticket right there on the spot! Only thing was, the show started at 1pm and St. Ludovico started at 2pm. Not to mention the 2pm show would be the last show of the day. So we ended up not going and giving the ticket away to another unsuspecting Japanese girl. Hope she enjoyed the show!^^ Even so, we went to the lobby to check out the goods. They had a photobook and the dvds for sale. Oh and cute little denim bag...much cuter than Kime's Summer Eruption bag.;p We didn't buy anything but enjoyed looking around.

Yeah, I'll be sure to take you along! It has a great international community feel to it!

St.Ludo was so much fun! Maybe you'll be here during their next play! You'll totally enjoy it! The level of Japanese they use is perfect. Except for a few exchanges and the one parody of a chara I had no idea of, I was hardly ever lost.

I was hesitant to see p*nish because I have no idea what their shows are like. Not to mention, Shuuji went out of his way to tell us to watch his show. And I was already intrigued by the St. Ludo storyline. Plus I heard p*nish has a lot of jokes, so I worry they'll fly over my head. They're tix are expensive, too. But I would totally go if I was offered a free ticket again.

And as for p*nish..how can someone say no to a free ticket after all?^^
But yeah their shows are full of humor that maybe can result hard to understand for us foreigners, I would attend only for one time and just to report it to my friends who like p*nish way more than me^^

But you girls sure were Lucky! Wow. And the show sounds great too. ^_^;;; Love parodies and shows that don't take themselves too seriously. :p

yeah, that sucked. But at least, when we went to buy the goods, we could hear them performing inside because of the speakers in the lobby! Sounded like the audience was really enjoying it.

I am incredibly jealous right now. I would have killed to get the DVDs and bag!
It's *pnish* and pronounced punish or panisshu, by the way. :D

Japanese theatre is great, the small companies at least. Some of them are so much fun.
